Rowlinsons Solicitors have partnered with the University of Chester to support their undergraduate students in gaining valuable work experience by providing free advice on private client law.

Three initial projects have been agreed starting with live webinars presented by the students on the topics of Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Probate and Equity release. Rowlinsons are assisting in preparation of the presentation, guiding the students as to where to find the information and checking the accuracy of the content.

The students have already completed the Wills webinar and prepared the LPA session for delivery in the New Year. The Undergraduates have also been asked to prepare some three-minute videos on the above topics for the Age UK (Cheshire) website with the help of Rowlinsons.

Finally, they will be launching a free legal advice client on Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney. Students will answer questions from the public with the support of Rowlinsons advising the students on where to research the answer and prepare a letter of advice.

Donna Eland, Director at Rowlinsons and Head of Private Client said

“We’ve been offering two half days per month of experienced solicitors’ time to support the students during this academic year and the feedback we’ve had so far is excellent. The Rowlinsons team have really enjoyed the process and I think the students will have gained some highly valuable, practical experience by the time we are finished.”

Andrea Todd, Director of Pro Bono & Community Engagement at the University of Chester added:

“We are so grateful for Rowlinsons’ support of our students.  We are already seeing the benefits of their solicitors’ time both in terms of the learning taking place but also the insight it gives our students into private client work and life in practice more generally.”
